West Hardin Middle School, a new construction project for general contractor Wehr Constructors, required a full institutional roofing package spanning multiple building sections, a mix of low-slope roof areas and sloped sections tied together across the school’s footprint.

The low-slope sections are being roofed with a Garland SBS modified bitumen system, installed per project specifications. The sloped sections are receiving Garland’s R-mer Span standing seam metal panel system. Decorative wood-grained soffit panels and trim, also by Garland, are being furnished and installed along the building’s eaves. Roof-associated flashing, gutters, downspouts, eave, peak, ridge, valley, headwall, rake, sidewall conditions, and fascia, is being shop-fabricated from Garland flat sheet stock. Factory-fabricated coping caps by Garland and Drexel Metals expansion joint covers complete the roof edge and expansion detailing, along with a roof hatch and safety rail for ongoing roof access. Wood blocking, sheathing, and nailers were excluded from American Roofing’s scope, provided instead by others on site.

Work is currently in progress, with materials for the low-slope sections being staged by crane directly to the roof for installation as the project sequences across the building’s various roof areas.
