Project Overview

Little Sisters of the Poor, a residential care facility for elderly individuals in need, sustained severe damage during the hail storm of 2012. American Roofing and Metal Company’s insurance claim experts worked through the claims process to scope the full extent of the damage, and our GAF Master Elite crews carried out a complete restoration: new shingles, all copper flashings, custom box gutters, and downspouts.

Because the facility remained occupied throughout construction, logistics were as critical as the roofing work itself. Shingles were shipped directly from the plant to a staging area at the rear of the site, and extended-reach forklifts lifted materials to the various roof sections. Crews worked in defined sections and within set time frames to limit disruption inside the facility for residents and staff.

The copper work presented the greater challenge. Gutters were custom-bent in American Roofing and Metal’s shop in 10′ lengths, then soldered together on site. Downspouts, drops, and miters were all custom fabricated and soldered by hand, resulting in a fully custom copper system unlike any other in the city.
